Once upon a time I was a runner.

Once upon a time I was a runner. I started like an other runner. I struggled through the first mile. I discovered that I could run one mile and then two and then five. Instead of progressing like a normal person and signing up for a respectable distance like a 5K, I decided that why not go for a FULL MARATHON. Yeah, I know, I am a total idiot. I could run five miles at the pace of a snail ( I swear I was being lapped by turtles) and I decided that sure, I can run 26 miles, no problem.
But that was just it, I needed a crazy challenge to motivate me. Normal races like 5K or a half didn't interest me. I wanted to go all the way. It was a full or it was nothing. How crazy is that? I couldn't even run miles and already I was a running snob. For the record I did finish my fist race which was the first running of the Tobacco Road Marathon. It was a struggle but me, overweight and a little freaked out, finished it and I wasn't even last.
That race was the first of many, then running turned into Ironman. My fist triathlon was a grueling 70.3 mile distance. I thinks it obvious I like to set my goals pretty high! Through all of these races, I was gearing up for my big race, the one that was in my heart to finish. I wanted to do an Ultra more than anything. 2013, I was signed up for two Ultra races in the fall, my very first attempts at a distance longer than a marathon. It was not to be, I was I sustained a catastrophic injury the summer of 2013 and everything changed. In a dance class, I fell and somehow twisted my back. In a second I had ruptured a disc. No more running! I could barely walk.
Now, four years later, I am chasing that dream again. I am older, a few pounds heavier ( Lets be honest, I am a lot of pounds heavier) and can run just over 2 miles. I have a long way to go to get to the finish line of a one hundred mile race but I will get there. That will be my happy ending. Follow my journey on Facebook.
